Visa Information

Non-Immigrant ED Visa

After receiving the official Letter of Admission (LOA) from KU, you should apply at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in your country (or place of residence) for a Non-Immigrant ED Visa in order to enter Thailand.

Information about the visa process and the location of the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in each country is available here: http://www.thaiembassy.org/main/

Validity of a Visa

  • Single entry: 90 days
  • Multiple entries: one year

Period of Stay – Depends on the Visa Depending on the decision of the issuing Embassy/Consulate, incoming students may initially receive a Non-Immigrant ED Visa for a period not exceeding 90 days from the date of the first entry; some students may be issued an ED Visa for one year.

  • The semester term at KU is usually 4 or 5 months, so if you are issued a 90-day ED Visa initially, you will need to request a Visa Extension from the Immigration Bureau located in Bangkok. The KUIC can help you with that process.
  • Most ED Visas are issues as a Single-Entry Visa. This means you may only enter Thailand one time under that visa. Thus, if you wish to depart and re-enter Thailand, you must first apply for a Re-entry Permit (Single-Entry or a Multiple-Entry) at the Immigration Bureau (or at the Immigration Office in Bangkok’s International Airport) before they depart. If you leave Thailand without applying for a re-entry permit, your original permission to stay for 90 days will be terminated automatically, and you will need to obtain a new valid ED Visa in order to re-enter and to complete your studies at KU.

Visa Extension

When the incoming student’s visa is nearly expired (4 weeks in advance), the student must apply for an extension.

Failure to extend the visa Penalty 500 THB/day

Fees

  • Visa Extension Fee 1,900 THB
  • Overstay Penalty 500 THB/Day up to a maximum of 20,000 THB

  • The KUIC will help facilitate/provide documents for extension of your educational stay.
  • Please contact KUIC office at least one month before the expiry date; KUIC will then arrange for you to get the official document needed, approved by the university executive.

Note: Students holding the Non-Resident ED Visa are not allowed to work in Thailand.

90 Days report

How to File the 90 Days Report

This is a separate, mandatory process required of all persons who are not Thai nationals. The primary purpose is to register, and confirm, your current address in Thailand.
It is your responsibility to do the 90-Day Report by yourself. The report can be made 15 days in advance, or within 7 days after the 90-day deadline.

You may file the 90-Day Report in three ways:

  1. In-person
  2. By registered mail
  3. Online (if you have previously completed the 90-Day Report in-person of by registered mail, but online is not available for your first 90-Day Report).

Information about the reporting process are available at: https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/90-day-reporting-immigration.php

Documents Needed

  1. Fill out the 90-Day Notification Report Form (TM.47 Form)
  2. Submit TM.47 with the following:
    • Passport (copy all pages showing your most recent arrival stamp and visa); be sure to take your passport with you if you go in-person to the Immigration Bureau)
    • Departure Card (TM.6) (copy front and back)
    • Notification Paper / Appointment Slip (this shows that you have successfully completed the 90-Day Report, thus you will not have this if this is your first notification)

Note: There is no fee for the 90-Days Report if you report on time. The late penalty fine is 2,000-5,000 THB, depending on how late you make the report, if you are arrested.

Re-entry

How to Obtain the Re-Entry Permit

Students who leave Thailand must obtain a Re-entry Permit/Visa before departing. You may get either a One-time Re-Entry Permit or a Multiple-Entry Permit. If you plan to travel outside Thailand only one time, a Single Re-Entry Permit is sufficient. If you plan to travel out of Thailand more than once, you should get a Multiple Re-Entry permit.

Single re-entry permit: 1,000 THB fee
Multiple re-entry permit: 3,800 THB fee
